Pink Persimmon "You're a Jewel"

Hello friends!  What a wonderful week we are having.  My daughter and her boyfriend arrived from Colorado last Saturday night and we have been so busy .... rock climbing (not me, I just watched and took some photo's), 19 mile bike ride (my longest ride so far!!  It was split up into 3 stages with big breaks in between.  Oh how my patootie hurt.  I was really surprised that was the area that hurt the most), a movie, and NASA space center, so far.  Thursday we are doing "Thanksgiving" since they want be here for that.  Basically it's just a day of cooking together.  In the past we would play Christmas music to sing along too and put up the Christmas tree ... not sure we are going that far though!  We will probably wrap the day up with some sort of game, Catan or Canasta.  That will only leave Friday.  The week is flying by and it will be soooo hard to put them on a plane back to Colorado on Saturday.  :  (

Today I'm sharing a card designed using Pink Persimmon's "You're a Jewel" and "ATC Background - Fairy Tale".

I've been trying some new color combo's and I'm really lovin' the aqua / purple!  Do you have a new color combo you have tried recently?

In preparation for lots of new stamp designs coming in Pink Persimmon is having a big sale to make room!!  So many great vintage designs are on the way!!  They just opened their new online store and you can save 30% off your order.  See details HERE.

************EDITED :  I am soooooooo very sorry.  I made a huge mistake.  Pink Persimmon clearly emailed me with the info and it said the sale ended on the 30th.  With all of our busy activity ... I quickly typed this post up without reviewing the email again and didn't remember this part.   I'm very embarrassed that I sent this post out so late and I hope it didn't inconvenience anyone *************

Hope you are having a fabulous week as well!
Melisa

Pink Persimmon's "Fine and Dandy"

Hello stampers!  Tonight I'm sharing a card is designed using one of the Antiquated sets "Fine and Dandy" by Lisa M. Pace for Pink Persimmon.  I just love the Antiquities line!  I hope you are all having a fabulous New Year so far!!

Still lots of challenges for us and certainly not sure what 2013 will bring.  It's a little scarry, because my mother still has no place to live and it's not looking like that problem will be solved anytime soon.  It is very difficult to have her living with us.  I grew up with no father and an alcoholic mother.  It wasn't the best of situations and there is soooo much hurt, anger, resentment in our relationship.  So to now have someone who has damaged you emotionally live with you .....  well it's one of the most difficult situations I have been in for quite some time.  I am trusting that God has a fabulous plan.  Even when my prayers are not answered like I think they should be ... or when they should be .... I know that He loves me and I trust that He will not put more on me than I can handle as long as I lean on Him.  I pray that the way that I handle this very difficult and emotional situation will only bring honor and glory to Him!  Because trust me ... there is no way that I could show love, kindness, forgiveness, or patience to the one person who has hurt me so deeply in my life without God.  Everyday has become a struggle but I know that I will be stronger  when it's all said and done!

As a result ... I am struggling with be creative as well.  I did work on a set of 4 coordinating 8 x 8 canvas's recently and need to get them photographed.  Hope to share more soon!!

hugs,
Melisa

Vintage style birthday card

Hello paper crafters!  Today I want to share a vintage styled card I designed using images from 2 stamp sets from Pink Persimmon "Society Lady" and another recently released set "Postal Stamps".  "Society Lady"  is from the Antiquated line.  It includes a lot of vintage images.  I recently purchased some 8 x 8 mini-album pages and other accesories from the "Documented" line by Simple Stories.  Combined with the Antiquated line of images, I think I will be able to create a nice little album using some really old black and white photo's.  I don't have all the sets yet, but once I get them and it's all done, I will share.  I am completely addicted to Cheery Lynn Designs "French Doily".  I love the look I get when I cut from tissue paper and then spray it with inks.

I'm off to work and then grocery shopping for the rest of my Thanksgiving meal ingredients!  I will be missing my daughter this year.  But I"m soooo thankful to have my son and his girlfriend.  I love the time we spend together cooking in the kitchen, listening to Christmas music,  and then decorating the tree's.  Did I mention I'm in love with his girlfriend.  She is so sweet .... and she likes to craft!  We spent the day together last wednesday and I really enjoyed it.

Check out Pink Persimmon stamps HERE.

Thanks for stopping by today ....  and in case I don't get a chance to post again this week ....
Happy Thanksgiving!!
hugs, Melisa

Pink Persimmon Ensemble!

Good morning card makers.  Today I'm sharing a Pink Persimmon ensemble that is easy to create because it's mostly solid stamping!  So you can whip these out in no time at all.  The part that takes the longest is that little tissue paper ruffle I added, but so worth it if you like that vintage look.  LOVE this tissue paper by  Pink Paislee!!  If you don't want to take the time to create a ruffle (it is a little messy because you get glue all over your fingers), then use a border punch.

Also note that all of the image panels are ATC size!

On the first card, I'm featuring "Scottie Dog".  This set comes with different options for his coat and collar as well as 4 different scottie dog images.  You can check out another card I created using this little guy HERE.   At the bottom of this post HERE.  And 2 ATC's using this little guy HERE.

This card features "Flower Garden".  You can check out another card using "Flower Garden" HERE.  The sentiment is from "Vintage Greetings"

Remember the ATC I posted on Thur??  Well here is what it looks like on a card !  I LOVE this "Small Banner Set".  It has several pattern options that you can choose from for the fla0066gs, or you can just go with a solid color and add some letters.
You can view another card using "Singing Birds"  HERE.  I also created a couple of ATC's last year using "Singing Birds" HERE.
You can view a layout using "Small Banner"  HERE.

I'm linking this one up to Word Art Wednesday this week, not because I used the word art (you do not have  to), but because my little birdies are singing, almost appearing as if they are shouting joyfully.   If you get a minute, hop over and read about "The Meaning of Joy".

Check out Pink Persimmon stamps HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

B-Line Designs - Gettin' Shabby!

I ADORE B-Line Designs stamps.  They are some of the most wonderful vintage stamps I have ever seen!  Unfortunately they do not have an online store, so you have to find somewhere that sells them online, or get your local store to order them.  I think she attends stamp shows as well.  The only online store I"m aware of that sells them is StampDiva.com.  If you know of somewhere, let me know.  My local store is 50 min. away so ordering more from them would be a little out of my way.  Luckily I have a stash of them.  A stamp store in Jacksonville, FL carries them so when we lived there I purchased a few.

The dog / sentiment above and bears / sentiment below are available on page 5 of their "Pick Me Up" catalog (just in case you want to get them ordered in)

You can view all of their catalogs at their web site HERE.  They are a little slow to download, but worth the wait.

Pink Persimmon Card and Artist Trading Card

On the card above I used "Sweetheart Silk Card" with "Vintage Greetings".  Combine these great vintage images with a few dies and you can put this card together quick.  The dies are Quickutz (buttons / flowers on dress form), Cheery Lynn (doily) and Spellbinders (dress form).

All of these newly released images are all about 2.5 x 3.5.  Perfect for ATC's as long as you don't want a border.  The edges of the of the Baby Pearls measures 2.5" x 3.5".  There is a small amount of space around  the edges of  the images for Men's Buttons, Mermaid Pearls, Sweetheart Silk Card, and Happy Girl.  The Mini Bingo Card measure 2 5/8" x 3 5/8".  So if you used it for an ATC, you would trim away some of the solid border.   And of course the are perfect size for cardmaking and scrapbooking.  I love how Mermaid Pearls, Baby Pearls, and Happy Girl have those little boxes perfect for journaling, well at least for those of you who like your own handwriting.  I can tell you I don't like mine and what I would do is type it up, then cut the center of the boxes out creating a little window and then lay the image over my typed journaling.

So what do you think??
When you look at the images, what type projects do you start dreaming up??

Speaking of ATC's ...

2.5" x 3.5" Artist Trading Card

Not really an ATC person??
Well, do what I"m going to do with this one .....  put it on the front of a card.  I will share it again later when it's all done.  I couldn't resist creating it when I seen the banner challenge over at "Fun with ATC's".  They post challenges every 2 weeks so you still have time to enter if you like creating ATC's.  I used "Small Banner Set" and the birds and sentiments from "Singing Birds".

Well that's it for today.  Hopefully very soon I will be finishing up some more Mixed Media projects and scrapbook layouts to share!

Check out Pink Persimmon stamps HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Digital Two For Tuesday

Good afternoon friends!  I don't usually post twice in one day, but I wanted to share with you a call for guest designers over at "Digital Two for Tuesday".  You can read more about it HERE.

**** Update ****
Cora says she has filled all the guest designer positions for 2012

The blog is ran by Cora Hawkins and she is very talented at taking old images from vintage magazines and books and turning them into digital stamps that the rest of us can design with.  And all the images are FREE!  I can only imagine how much time Cora spends sharing these images on here "Digital Two for Tuesday" challenge blog and on her personal blog "Clearly Vintage" for the rest of us to use.  The only thing she ask is that you not share the actual image anywhere else and that if you post it somewhere, link to her blog.   If you get a minute, hop on over and check out the blog.

Aren't these some of the sweetest images ????  Doesn't it make you want to stop what your doing  and sit down and color???   Well ..... I guess that depends on what your doing, teehee.  I'm cooking dinner and doing some ironing.

Today I am sharing cards I created in the past using some of Cora's images.

I don't have time to look up all the individual links for each specific image, however you can check out the previous post for these and should find the links there.  HERE.

The post for this floral card comes with a step by step tutorial on how to print the image directly on the front of a card, no cutting or adhering.  You just print, fold, color, punch the border if you like and add a bow!
Clean and Simple!

Had to get up at 4am for CPR class this morning and back to work tomorrow and friday.  So I better get off here and finish up my day.  My Tempur-Pedic mattress is calling my name!  I LOVE my mattress!

I hope you all have a wonderful night!
Hugs,  Melisa

Vintage Easter Greetings from TX

Aren't vintage images so wonderful!  I love old postcards.  I found a great site that has free vintage images / postcards you can download for a variety of holidays.  Check out Hub Pages HERE.
That is a link to the page where you can find the image I used on this card.  HERE is another link which will help you find vintage images for other holidays.  There is a search box as well.  Just type free vintage images and the holiday.   Hope you find something you like.  If you create something using a vintage image/postcard, I would love to see it.  Just leave me a link in the comments section!

That rose tree is so pretty.  When we lived at the rental there was a rose tree right outside my studio window.  That thing was still blooming in December!!  I love TX.  I would love to have one here at the house, but I don't know anything about roses.  I guess I need to make a trip to my local garden center.

I hope your day brought you something beautiful like that beautiful rose tree on the card!

Mark's Finest Paper's Pucker UP

Today I'm sharing another card I designed using "Pucker Up" by Mark's Finest Papers.  Isn't this a cute sentiment.  I used Glimmer Mist - Lemongrass with a Crafter's Workshop stencil (Mini Swiss Dots) to create the polka dot background.  Then I soaked up the excess with the crepe paper.  I used water color paper and sprayed one area solid yellow to use for the lemons.  Then I added a darker shade of yellow with a water color crayon to add some depth.

The lemons on the inside were cut from a copy of my master board.
Hope your having a crafty week!

Altered Bird House - Valentine

Today I am sharing my Altered Valentine Bird Houses.  I created them to match my printer's tray / shadow box I shared with you earlier in the week.  I have tutorial photos from when I created my Altered Christmas Bird Houses.  I didn't finish them til right before Christmas, so I decided to wait and share them this fall.  But the technique is the same, so the tutorial photo's work for these as well.

**** Breaking News ****

The Je t' Adore collection from Making Memories is still available!!  I just assumed since it was a year old, that it would be hard to find now.  If you are interested, check out the entire line over on the Making Memories Website HERE.  This line is perfect for creating shabby chic Valentine projects!  Hmmmm  .... maybe I need more!   And I found the year old vintage images are still available as well!  HERE.  WOWzers ...  looks like this line has some cute products as well.  I'm linking you to page 2.  To see the rest of the colletion, go to page 3.  HERE

Ok that's enough shopping!

I LOVE all the vintage images I used.  They are all by K&Company.  The black words / phrase are rub-ons from my stash I've been hoarding for years ( Marah Johnson's Swatch Book Impress-ons "Bliss Designs" and Cloud Nine).  I'm wondering if Hobby Lobby still sells the Impress-on rub-ons.  I'll hve to check next time I"m there.  It's so good to be using some of my stash up.  I've been in craft heaven this week follow through on valentine idea's I've had for a long time.  The flowers the cherub was holding were purple, I fixed it with my R29 Copic.

That cute little Bingo card is by Jenni Bowlin.  The flowers covering part of the left lower corner of the bingo card are rub-ons by Making Memories "Je t' Adore".  So are the burgandy labels, "Kisses" and "Romance", the love banner, and the patterned paper.  Isn't that die across the top of the house gorgeous!  It's from the Spellbinder's Fancy Tags 2 set.  The roses are from Wild Orchids.

To get that shabby distressed look I inked all the edges of the paper and images, added lace, pearls and a heart shaped paper doily (house #1). I grunged up the doily on house #1 and lace on house #3 with by Golden Fresco Cream Glaze. I wet the lace (Hobby Lobby), added some glaze, and scrutched the lace.  I discovered that applying the distress ink over by patterned paper with a fan paint brush grunged it up softly.  It looks more natural without big strokes of ink.

Well I guess the only thing these bird house are missing are birds.  Maybe I'll go back and add a few bird images.  What do you think???

Altering a Bird House Tutorial
All of bird house were purchased at Michaels except house #2.  The house I'm shot the tutorial for is the most basic of my 4 Christmas bird houses (no second stories or skewed sides).  You want to see them don't you, teehee.  I'm not sure exactly when I'll post them.  I would love it if you subscribe to my blog to get email updates, then you will never miss a single post.  No worries, if you get tired of me, you can always unsubscribe.  Check the side bar and enter your email address.  It's that easy!

Step 1 :   Paint your house in the area's that will be exposed after adding your patterned paper.
Step 2 :   Measure the front of the house.  Cut your patterned paper a little larger, 1/2" or so.
After trying this several times, I figured out that it was easier to cut the perch first and then the sides vs. cuting the patterned paper the exact width horizontally as the house and then cutting the hole for the perch.  If your off a little it may be frustrating if it doesn't line up along the sides.

Step 3 :  Position your paper over the front of the bird house making sure you have extra extending of all sides.  If you have striped paper, this may be a little more challenging, unless your ok with crooked stripes.

Step 4 :  Use your fingers to feel / located the end of the perch.  Use a pencil to lightly draw guidelines.

Step 5 :   Now this is where I made it a little complicated and simplified it with the next house.  The first time, I used my exacto knife to cut cross lines and then pushed the paper over the perch.  Next I cut it with an exacto knife.  The second time, I just drew a pencil line all the way around the edge of the perch, used my cuticle scissors and cut.  I figured it it was a little off, no one would notice.  So you do which ever works for you and gets you the neatest hole.

Step 6 :   With the patterned paper positioned on the front of the house / over the perch ... make a pencil mark where you want to cut straight across the bottom so that it will be flush with that bottom ledge. And then trim with your paper cutter.

Step 7 :   Put the panel back on the front the house, over the perch and lined up with the bottom ledge.  Turn it side ways and put a pencil line across the back of the paper to indicate where to cut the sides of the house.  Then cut.  Repeat on opposite side.

Now both our your sides and bottom of the house should be flush with the sides and bottom ledge.  The patterned paper along the top should still be a little longer.  You can barely see it ... but mine is just long enough to line up with the tip of the roof line.

Step 8 :  Cut a small slit at the "V" of the roof top.  Just enough that you will be able to fold the paper along the roof line as shown below.

Step 9 :   Fold the paper along the roof line and use your nail to get a sharp crease.

Step 10 :   Use an exacto knife and trim.  Repeat on other side.

Step 11 :   Use your fingers and feel for the edge of the bird house door.  Starting in the middle cut push the exacto knife in and pull toward the edge.  After the first 3 times you will probably be better able to tell where the edge are and will push the exacto knife in along the edge and push toward the center.

Step 12 :   Use your finger to fold the paper in and create a sharp crease around the edges of the door.  This will be your guideline for cutting.

Step 13 :   Trim around the crease.  Now if you are a perfectionist, trim just a hair inside the crease and then after you have it adhered to the front of the house, you can use a file from the Basic Grey Percision file set to sand it down and get it flush with the door perfectly.  I've had my file set for years.  Check it out HERE.  I have used it along for altering chipboard letters and shapes.  I adhere the shape to the back of the patterned paper, cut as closely as I can with an exacto knife and the file down the edges so that the paper is perfectly flush.  Each file has a different shape and for example ... if you are altering the letter "e", it's going to be hard to cut the paper flush with the edges of the chipboard using scissors or an exacto knife.  With one of the files you can.

Step 14 :   Ink the edges and adhere the paper to the front of your birdhouse using mod podge or "regular gel medium" (found in the artist section of stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby and made by Golden and Liquitex).  What's the difference??  Mod Podge is wetter and cheaper ... Matte Gel Medium in thicker and more expensive.  It can take some practice using Mod Podge with a project like this because your trying to cover a large area and it dries quick.  I know what your thinking ...  just pile it on.  But if your paper gets too wet, it can warp and get air bubbles underneath it.  The thinner the paper ...  the more likely it is to warp.  So I used a think layer of Mod Podge but worked quickly to get my paper on and rubbed down.

That's the basic technique.  Of course it's a little more complicated if you have 2 stories or double perches.  The sides and roof are easy because your just cutting rectangles.
I will be posting my Spring bird houses again in a couple of months.
I'm already thinking maybe I'll do a video tutorial later with my Patriotic bird houses.  My next video tutorial is going to be a Valentine Banner.  I need to keep it simple til I get the camera and editing program down.  Editing made me a little frustrated with the first video.
Hope you found the tutorial helpful and inspirational.  As always, if you decide to give this a try, I'd love it if you linked your readers to my tutorial and let me know so I can check yours out!
Have a wonderful weekend!!
hugs, Melisa
